Fishing Guides
Jackson Hole Anglers employs some of the finest fly fishing
guides in the nation. Our fishing guides come from a variety
of different locations and backgrounds. Our guides do,
however, share some very important attributes. They are
passionate instructors, guides, and fishermen. For more
information on our guiding philosophy, please visit our
philosophies page. Below are some
brief portraits of some of our fishing guides.
David Ellerstein:
Owner ~ Head Guide
David Ellerstein began his professional guide career in Ontario,
Canada back in 1989, and has been a guide ever since. He has
guided fishing, canoeing, and whitewater rafting all over North
America. David moved to Jackson Hole in 1995, and founded
Jackson Hole Anglers in 2001. His lifelong passion for guiding
trips has helped him become one of the premiere guides in the area.
David has passed his knowledge on to many guides and gets a great
thrill from seeing others achieve things they didn't think they
could do. David spends his winters as a ski instructor at the
Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, where he is the Head Coach of the
Jackson Hole Steep and Deep Camps and the 2011 Adult Ski Instructor
of the Year. In his free time he runs rivers and fishes all over North America. David is an extremely patient
and knowledgeable guide, capable of teaching the most veteran of
fishermen something new. David has a relaxed approach to
fishing, which means people will have a great time, regardless of
what the day holds.
Spencer Morton:
Spencer
Morton won Top Guide honors at the 2012 One-Fly, beating out a field
of 60 guides from throughout the region. Hailing
from Stowe, Vermont, and carrying a degree in fisheries and wildlife
biology, Spencer has made quite a splash on the Jackson scene.
He is one of our most requested guides due to his combination of
knowledge, experience, and energy. Having guided in Wyoming,
Vermont, and Alaska, Spencer is
extremely knowledgeable on a variety of fishing subjects including
stream dynamics, trout physiology, and entomology. In the
winter, Spencer plays for our local hockey team, the Jackson Hole
Moose. Spencer is an excellent guide who's passion and
excitement are bound to make a day on the river a memory to last a
lifetime.
Jason Moore:
A
native of Rochester, NY, Jason has a passion for the outdoors like
few others. In the guide world, we like to say that Jason is
one of those guys who "has gills". Jason likes to spend just about every waking
moment fishing, hunting, or skiing. An expert caster and about
the friendliest guy you'd ever want to meet, Jason makes a day on
the water more than just enjoyable, he makes it truly memorable.
First class personal attention and a burning desire to catch fish
are just some of the things you'll get during a day with Jason
Moore.
Jesse Mead:
Jesse is a veteran guide with 16 years of guiding western rivers
to his credit. Jesse has a variety of great skills including a
specialty in deep water nymphing for large trout. Jesse oozes
confidence and experience. We have seen him show the most
seasoned angler something new. We have also seen him get young
kids catch big fish on the fly. Whatever experience you are
looking for, Jesse can most likely provide it for you.
Matt Lloyd:
Matt hails from Lander, Wyoming where in the off season he
works as a senior-level instructor for the National Outdoor
Leadership School (NOLS) and Central Wyoming College.
Matt recently earned his master’s degree in Adventure
Education from Prescott College and is an AMGA Certified
Guide with over ten years experience leading others in the
outdoors.
Matt’s teaching skills, outdoor expertise and fishing
knowledge allow him to effectively guide and educate
beginners and experts alike. Around the shop Matt is known
for finding big fish.
Chase Putnam:
Chase grew up
fishing on the western waters of Colorado. Chase guided
professionally in Colorado for two years before making the move to
Jackson. He has been in the area for four seasons now, guiding with
Jackson Hole Anglers from the start. Chase’s passion for guiding is
evident in his enthusiasm and resilience for catching fish. Chase
has the unique ability to adapt to any and all fishing situations.
Regardless of your level of experience, if you’re with Chase you’re
bound to have a fishing trip to remember.
