Everything You Need for a Perfect Day on the Water

Jackson Hole Anglers provides all the essential gear, equipment, and meals so you can show up and focus entirely on fishing. Here is exactly what we cover and what we recommend you bring to make your day on the water as comfortable as possible.

What We Provide

  • Fly rods and reels suited to the water and conditions on the day of your trip
  • A full selection of flies — dry flies, nymphs, and streamers matched to current hatch activity
  • Drift boat and properly fitted life jackets for every guest
  • Your dedicated guide, who will be in touch the evening before your trip to confirm the water and answer any last-minute questions
  • Snacks and drinks throughout the day
  • Lunch prepared at a scenic spot along the river (full day trips only)
  • Round trip transportation from your hotel or a pre-arranged meeting spot

What to Bring

  • Layers and a rain shell — mornings on the river can be cool, and afternoon storms can roll in fast
  • Shoes that can get wet — sandals or hiking shoes work well
  • Polarized sunglasses — they cut surface glare and help you spot fish
  • Sunscreen and a hat — sun exposure on the water is intense, especially at Jackson Hole's elevation
  • A reusable water bottle
  • Any personal medications you may need during the day
  • Any additional snacks or beverages you enjoy

Fishing Licenses

A fishing license is required for all guests and is not included in the trip price. Make sure you have the right one for your trip before you arrive, or your guide can help you get sorted on the morning of your trip.

Wyoming Fishing License Required for all trips on Wyoming waters, including the Snake River, Green River, Salt River, New Fork River, and Flat Creek. Available as a 1-day, 5-day, or full-season option for nonresident anglers. Anglers under 14 fish free and do not need a license.

Yellowstone National Park Fishing Permit Required in addition to a park entrance pass for any trip into Yellowstone National Park. Wyoming licenses are not valid inside the park. Available as a 3-day, 7-day, or season permit — purchasable at any park entrance or visitor center.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What should I wear?

Dress in layers. Summer mornings on the river can be cool, with temperatures in the 40s when we pick you up and climbing into the 80s by afternoon. During spring and fall, conditions can swing dramatically in a single day, so always pack a warm shell, fleece, hat, and gloves and hope you end up in a T-shirt.

  • Do I need fishing experience?

Not at all. Our guides are experienced instructors who can teach you everything you need from the moment we hit the water. We work with complete beginners and seasoned anglers every day, and everyone catches fish.

  • Can I bring my own gear?

Absolutely. If you prefer to use your own rods, reels, or flies, you are welcome to bring them along. Our guides are happy to work with whatever gear you are most comfortable fishing.

  • Are there bathroom facilities?

There are typically bathrooms at the launch and takeout points on each river. During the day, we simply pull over at a private spot along the bank as needed. We carry bathroom supplies on the boat.

  • What license do I need?

For trips on Wyoming rivers, you need a Wyoming fishing license. For trips into Yellowstone National Park, you need a Yellowstone fishing permit and a park entrance pass. Your guide will let you know exactly what is required when they reach out the evening before your trip.

  • Where do I buy my fishing license?

Wyoming licenses are available online through the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. Yellowstone fishing permits can be purchased at any park entrance or visitor center. Your guide can also help you get sorted on the morning of your trip if needed.

  • When should I buy my license?

We recommend purchasing before your trip to save time on the morning of your departure. That said, if you have not purchased in advance, your guide will help you get everything sorted before you hit the water.
