40 Miles of World-Class Water

Running through the heart of Jackson Hole, The Snake River is one of the crown jewels of the U.S. Wild and Scenic Rivers program. It is a classic freestone river that is home to native Snake River Cutthroat Trout. The scenery is spectacular and the trout are plentiful with an average of over 800 fish per mile.

The Snake is a large river and is best fished by boat. We guide on a variety of different stretches of the Snake River, spanning over 40 miles. Most of the sections are calm, moving water with a variety of riffles, cut banks, deep pools, and long runs. There is also an 8 mile stretch of whitewater on the Snake that we guide on. Fishing through the whitewater canyon is an unforgettable experience.

The Snake River is typically fishable year round, with the exception of a brief period of spring run-off which tends to occur sometime during May or June.

Whitewater Canyon Fishing

The Snake River includes an eight-mile whitewater canyon that most guides never run. Jackson Hole Anglers specializes in it. The canyon consistently produces the best fishing on the river with the least pressure of any section, because the whitewater keeps most boats away. In the heat of summer, when rising river temperatures slow fishing elsewhere, the deep canyon water stays cold and the native cutthroat keep biting. It takes a specialized guide and a boat built for the water. If you want the most memorable day on the Snake River, this is it.

Gentle Scenic Floats

The calm sections of the Snake River move through open Wyoming landscapes beneath wide western skies. Bald eagles are a regular presence overhead, and the pace of the day gives you time to take it all in. This is the float that suits couples, families, and anyone looking for a day that balances great fishing with great scenery, without feeling rushed or crowded.

Native Cutthroat Fishing

The Snake River is known for its native cutthroat trout, a species that defines this fishery. These fish are strong, surface-oriented, and rewarding to pursue. This experience is ideal for anglers who want to fish for native trout in a setting that feels both wild and accessible, guided by professionals who understand the water and its seasonal patterns.

Beginner to Advanced

Whether you have never held a fly rod or have spent decades on the water, the Snake River can be adapted to your skill level. Guides read each guest quickly and adjust their approach accordingly, spending time on casting fundamentals and reading water with newer anglers, and stepping back to let experienced fishermen work independently when that's what the day calls for. There is no pressure to perform and no one-size-fits-all script. It's a supportive environment for first-timers and a productive, focused day for anglers who already know what they're doing.

What to Expect on a Snake River Guided Float Trip

When you book, we reserve a guide specifically for your day on the water. The night before your trip, your guide will reach out to confirm which river to fish based on current conditions. From pickup to the final cast, logistics are managed so you can stay focused on fishing.
